Tabernacle Historical Society

Executive Board Meeting

September 13, 2021

This special  meeting was held on the above date at the Knight-Pepper House. The President called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. There were 5 members present: Mary Ann Silvers, Carolyn Cuviello, Jim Cuviello, Ann Franzen and Rick Franzen.

Rick announced that Gail Corey has been pursuing grants on behalf of the Historical Society.  One is a federal grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the other is a grant offered by Burlington County.  The group explored the various categories of help and the amount of funding to ask for.  We want our grant applications to have a high probability of success, so we discuss the way to best present our case.

We will do another road cleanup to raise funds.  It was decided to try a weekday in October, to clean up two roads (Zimmerman and Bozarthtown) and to recruit Carol and Greg Riener  as volunteers along with the Cuviellos.

Atsion Day Flea Market will be held on October 2.  We will set up two canopies – one for THS and the other for the Franzens’ own items.  Mary Ann Silvers, Eileen Chesla, Carolyn Cuviello, Jim Cuviello and Sue Shannon will sell our merchandise with help from the Franzens.

Mary Ann will send out reminders to the members to send in their 2021 dues money.

Rick reported on some of the research he has been doing at the County Archives, State Archives and the Library at Rutgers University.  We have greatly expanded our collection of maps, wills and photos during this year.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 AM.  While the Historical Society is not holding regular meetings at this time, the President will schedule other Executive Board meetings as the need arises.

AUGUST 30, 2021 EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

Tabernacle Historical Society

Executive Board Workshop Meeting

August 30, 2021

This special  meeting was held on the above date at the Franzen home. The President called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM. There were 3 members present: Mary Ann Silvers,  Ann Franzen and Rick Franzen.

The purpose of this meeting was to work on several tasks, make plans and review the proposed budget.

The first task was to organize a collection of Pinelands photos given to the Historical Society by Garfield DeMarco  Some of these will be kept and eventually displayed, while others (duplicate copies) will be sold to raise money.

Recently, we were permitted to remove artifacts from the old Tabernacle School before the new owners take possession of the building.  These include old lighting fixtures, books, a flag and even some of the original flooring.  At this meeting we affixed labels to each item giving it an acquisition number for our records.

Plans were made to sell our historic plates, afghans and tree ornaments as well as the surplus DeMarco photos at the upcoming flea market called Atsion Day.  This is sponsored by the Indian Mills Historic Society and will take place on October 2, 2021.

Mary Ann Silvers presented the new budget for a first review by those present.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 PM.  While the Historical Society is not holding regular meetings at this time, the President will schedule other Executive Board meetings as the need arises.

JUNE 18, 2021 EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

Tabernacle Historical Society

Executive Board  Meeting

June 18, 2021

This special  meeting was held on the above date at the Knight-Pepper House. The President called the meeting to order at 11:15 AM. There were 5 members present: Mary Ann Silvers,  Ann Franzen, Rick Franzen, Jim Cuviello and Carolyn Cuviello.

Carolyn reported that the Tabernacle Women’s Association has declining membership and may be in its last year.  The group will continue with its holiday project, the Giving Tree, but may be looking to the Historical Society to continue with it in the future.

The group discussed possible fundraisers since the Covid Pandemic has prevented us from hosting our traditional events.

Mary Ann told us that the old Tabernacle School (most recently Seqoia High School) has been sold to a group called Friends of Cyrus.  Our one-room Friendship School sits on a small corner of the property included in the sale.  The Society has one year after the purchase to work out arrangements with the new owners to allow us to keep the school on that site.  We may have to seek an easement to continue occupying the space.

The need for storage space was discussed.  At present, documents, photos and historic artifacts are being kept in officers’ homes as well as the unheated Pepper House and Cemetery buildings.  It was suggested that the rear half of the old Emergency Squad Building on Hawkin Road might serve our purposes, but the future of that builing is not clear at this point.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 PM.  While the Historical Society is not holding regular meetings at this time, the President will schedule other Executive Board meetings as the need arises.

Ann Franzen

Secretary
